The task of making sure everyone has emergency information readily available to them is a daunting task at best. What with the many different barriers such as language, sight and hearing, the job of distributing emergency preparedness information can be quite challenging. We all want access to the most clear and updated information no matter what the topic may be and knowing where to locate it is half the battle.

I have recently come across an Emergency Preparedness website for those with visual
and hearing impairments. It is the Accessible Emergency Information website located at http://www.accessibleemergencyinfo.com.

Here’s what you can find on this easy-to-use website:

  • ASL Videos (American Sign Language Videos)
There are over 50 videos available on emergency preparedness, plus a link
at the bottom to the Preparedness4Deaf videos channel on YouTube.

  • Braille Formatted Downloadable Documents
Topics include General Emergency Preparedness, Pandemic Flu, Medication
    Information, Anthrax, Botulism and more.

  • Large Print Downloadable Documents
Topics covered are the same as the Braille topics.

  • Other resources available on this website include:
    • PDF documents
    • A collection of free resources
    • H1N1 Information

As always, our hope here at the Kings County Office of Emergency Management is that you will use the information we provide for the betterment of you and your family. If you don’t feel it pertains to you or anyone you know, passing along the information is a wonderful way of doing your part for Emergency Preparedness.
    .

Do your part for safety awareness by passing this information along to anyone you can think of who would benefit.

Have a great week, and remember…… Be Responsible - Be Ready - Be Prepared!
