Is your emergency preparedness stockpile up to date?

  • When it’s time to change your clocks because of daylight savings time, remember to check your
    preparedness kit
to make sure your emergency stockpile isn’t missing any items and that the food
hasn’t expired. APHA’s Get Ready: Set Your Clocks, Check Your Stocks campaign is reminding
people to refresh their emergency supplies before a disaster occurs.

  • If you have not created a stockpile yet, now is the time to create one!
(And as always, do not forget to check the batteries in your smoke alarms.)

Have a Sound Fire Safety and Escape Plan

If you are a frequent traveler, you are probably pretty good at not only packing only the necessities for your trip, but probably place them in a certain order in your bag as to fit the most that you can.
If so, you are well on your way to getting the most efficient stockpile kit put together. However, once you have your stockpile /kit packed, where do you store it? Is it in the closet behind those shoes that you wear the least? Is it in the garage where it could easily be shoved to the back by well-meaning family members doing a "spring cleaning"? Remember that you may not only need to shelter in place and want easy location of your stockpile, but you may need to leave your home and you may not have time do "dig" for it as if on a treasure hunt.

Have Easy Access to Your Supply Kit and Emergency Informaiton

Your supply kit/kits should be in an easy-to-grab place such as
the front of the pantry or closet or maybe in the broom closet. Where ever you place your stockpile, make sure it is easily seen and reachable and most importantly, known to all family members.

Do your part for safety awareness by passing this information along to anyone you can think of who would benefit.

Have a great week, and remember…… Be Responsible - Be Ready - Be Prepared!
