If
you are a baseball fan, then
you know that July represents
the half-way point in the season;
the Home Run Derby and the All
Star Game give us a fun and exciting
boost to the season. For some
fans, it’s a statistical
time to see how all the teams
are faring. For Kings County,
July represents the half-way
point in the West Nile Virus
season (Mosquito season in Kings
County is typically from April
1 to October 31). So how is Kings
County faring?
As
of July 11, 2011, the only
evidence of West Nile in
Kings County is in the report
of one dead bird – no
positive mosquito samples,
and more importantly, no
human cases! That’s
great news for us.
Neighboring
counties have reported some
positive mosquito samples.
Fresno County for example
has 8 reported positive mosquito
samples; Kern has 10, and
Tulare County has reported
8 dead birds and 15 positive
mosquito samples. As of this
writing, there are no human
cases reported in California |

Last
year I did an extensive 2-part series
on the West Nile Virus. It is still
available online through our website’s
