The purpose of the HRSA grant is to ready hospitals and supporting health care systems
to deliver coordinated and effective care to victims of bioterrorism and other public health emergencies.

Funding through this grant is utilized
to address the following HRSA Benchmarks:
  • Surge Capacity - includes planning and the provision of equipment to improve the County’s ability to respond to a large surge in ill or injured patients, resulting from a bioterrorism incident or a public health emergency.
  • Pharmaceutical Caches - includes the provision of prophylactic medicines to first responders and medical personnel who will be responding to a bioterrorism incident or public health emergency.
  • Personal Protective Equipment - includes the provision of personal protective equipment to first responders and medical personnel who will be responding to a bioterrorism incident or public health emergency.
  • Decontamination Equipment - includes the provision of decontamination equipment to hospitals and EMS for the purpose of decontaminating individuals exposed to a biological, chemical, or radiological agent.
  • Trauma and Burn Care - includes the provision of equipment to hospitals and EMS to improve their ability to respond to trauma and burn patients.
  • Communications and Information Technology - includes the development of redundant communication systems that allow the dissemination of critical information between local health care systems, first responders, and emergency management personnel.
  • Education and Preparedness Training - includes the provision of training to health professionals on how to respond to a bioterrorism incident or public health emergency.
  • Terrorism Preparedness Exercises - includes the development and execution of drills that tests the County’s preparedness plans and the health care systems’ ability to respond to a bioterrorism incident or public health emergency.
