Emergency
Response Coordinator
Sabrina Bustamante
In
In June of 2005, I embarked upon a new path in life.
I accepted the position of Emergency Response Coordinator
for Kings County. After 14 years in the health care
industry I quickly realized that my work experience
would be invaluable to the new challenge I was facing,
this included my experience as a wife and mother. In
addition to work and life experience, I have earned
a dual major Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and
Human Sciences and Health Administration. I am currently
working towards a Masters Degree in Public Health.
As the Emergency Response Coordinator,
my role in Kings County is to
administer, plan and coordinate
the emergency preparedness and
response efforts associated with
the Emergency Preparedness Grant
awarded the Kings County by the
Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention.
Activities planned
and coordinated through this
position range from full scale
exercises, mock drills, disaster
training for county and community
partners. These activities ensure
that first responders, the health
care community, non-profits,
faith based organizations and
private businesses have the tools
they need to work to enable them
to respond in a coordinated effort
during any type of disaster which
may impact the Kings County Community.
Some of the events coordinated
include multi agency activities
such as the Drive-Thru Flu Clinics,
dual county table top exercise
in which the scenario was a mock
detonation of explosive devices
at multiple sites. Other activities
include public presentations
on personal preparedness for
groups such as In Home Supportive
Services, senior citizen support
groups, local schools, non-profit
agencies and faith-based organizations.
Coming from a large family,
I have a great appreciation and
respect for building partnerships.
This community partnership is
evident, as we have built an
Advisory Committee of over 50
different agencies and private
and non-profit organizations
which includes local healthcare
providers, government entities
(CDC, Lemoore Naval Air Station,
FBI, CDPH, local, state political
figures), private business, local
law enforcement and first responders.
When a disaster or emergency
strikes WE will have a unified
response as a Community and not
as separate entities. I plan
and put forth the same effort
in my preparedness for Kings
County as I do for my own family.
I hold this community close to
my heart and am honored to be
entrusted with this responsibility.
