In
the fall of 2008 Kings County
Public Health in partnership with Kings
County
Fire and other community first
responding agencies to conduct a Drive-Thru
flu
clinic.
Community partners included:
- Kings
County Fire
- American
Ambulance
- Fresno
State BSN Program
- Kings
County Fairgrounds/ Staff
The
2008 Drive-Thru Flu Clinics were
featured at 6 County Locations:
- Hanford- Kings County Fairgrounds
- Corcoran
District Hospital
- Lemoore
Senior Citizen Building
- Strathmore – Mobile
Unit
- Kettlemen
City Public Health Site
- Avenal – Mobile Unit
The Drive-Thru Flu Clinic serves many
purposes. It is a convenient method of
obtaining an annual flu shot. The average
wait time is about 10-15 minutes. In
addition to traditional vehicles, buses
and multi passenger vehicles come utilize
the clinic.
Additionally, it gives the Public Health
Staff, Fire, Ambulance and other first
responding agencies and means to exercise
emergency response modules. The Drive-Thru
module is one of several methods that
will be utilized should the need for
mass vaccination or mass dispensing be
necessary to respond to a local health
emergency.
Traditionally, annual flu clinics are
conducted during the months of October
and November or until no vaccine is available.
This exercise allows the Health Department
to practice response plans with its stakeholder.
The 2008 Clinic was a great success,
which we could not have achieved without
the partnership of the staff and volunteers.
Other partners that contributed to our
success were:
- United
States Veterans – Corcoran
and Hanford Chapters
- Fresno
State BSN Program
- Hanford
Adult School
- Kings
County Administration
The
event was a coordinated effort
of approximate
125 staff
which
responded at 6 city locations within 4 hours resulting
in the vaccination over
1000 county residents of
all ages.
Many thanks to those who
participated in Project SHOT
2008.
